Widemouth Bay is a popular beach for visitors staying near Bude, but dog rules change by beach area and season. The safest habit is simple: check Cornwall Council’s current dog beach page before travelling, then check signs at the beach entrance when you arrive.
This guide was last checked in June 2026.
Main seasonal rule
Cornwall Council lists Widemouth Beach as having a seasonal dog restriction from 15 May to 30 September between 10am and 6pm. Outside restricted hours or outside the season, rules may be different, but local signs still matter.
Do not rely on old blog posts or memory from a previous trip. Rules can change.
What about Black Rock?
Black Rock, south of the main Widemouth beach area, is often useful for dog owners looking for more flexibility. Make sure you are clear about which part of the beach you are using and follow the signs.
If in doubt, choose a clearly dog-friendly alternative such as Northcott Mouth, Sandymouth, Duckpool or Millook.
