Bude Beach Dog Rules: Summerleaze, Crooklets and Nearby Alternatives

Summerleaze Beach in Bude

Bude is a good area for a dog-friendly coastal trip, but the rules differ between beaches. Summerleaze, Crooklets and nearby quieter beaches do not all work the same way.

This guide was last checked in June 2026. Always check Cornwall Council rules and local signs before taking a dog onto the beach.

Summerleaze Beach

Cornwall Council lists Summerleaze as a dogs-on-leads beach between 21 May and 30 September from 10am to 6pm. That means it can still work for dog owners, but your dog needs to stay on a lead during the restricted daytime period.

Summerleaze is useful because it is close to town, the canal and Bude Sea Pool.

Crooklets Beach

Crooklets has a stricter seasonal restriction. Cornwall Council lists a dog ban from 15 May to 30 September between 10am and 6pm.

If you want Crooklets with a dog in summer, plan around the restricted hours or use another beach.

Better alternatives

For more flexible dog walks, check Northcott Mouth, Sandymouth, Duckpool, Black Rock and Millook. These can be better choices when town beaches are restricted.

Practical tips

  • Check rules before setting out.
  • Check signs at every beach entrance.
  • Keep dogs under control near cliffs and livestock.
  • Avoid busy surf zones with excitable dogs.
