What Crooklets is best for
Crooklets is a good beach for surf atmosphere, rock pools at lower tide, family beach time and a slightly more open feel than Summerleaze. It still has Bude facilities nearby, which makes it easier than more remote beaches.
At low tide, the wider beach area can feel more connected to Summerleaze, giving you more room for a longer walk.
Families and rock pools
Children often enjoy Crooklets because it has sand, rocks and changing tide lines to explore. Rock pooling is best treated as a low-tide activity, and adults should keep an eye on tide movement.
Bring layers. Even when the beach looks calm, the wind can make a long stay feel colder than expected.
Surf and sea conditions
Crooklets is part of Bude’s surf scene, but conditions vary. If you are new to surfing, use a qualified local surf school and follow lifeguard flags when present.
For non-surfers, it is still a good place to watch the waves, especially when conditions are lively.
Dog rules
Cornwall Council lists a seasonal dog ban for Crooklets Beach from 15 May to 30 September between 10am and 6pm. Check current signage before taking a dog onto the beach.
If you are visiting with a dog during restricted hours, look at nearby dog-friendly alternatives such as Northcott Mouth, Sandymouth, Duckpool or Black Rock.
